What patients' characteristics predict outcome?

چکیده
The study 'Outcomes of Involuntary Hospital Admission in England' was linked to EUNOMIA and presents the largest ever national study on outcomes and predictors for outcomes of involuntary hospital admission. Patients were assessed within the first week after admission, after four weeks, three months and twelve months. More than 800 patients were interviewed after admission. Baseline and outcome data was obtained also for those patients who for various reasons did not participate in interviews. This paper summarises what patient characteristics predict outcome in terms of clinical improvement, readmissions and patients' retrospective assessment as to whether the admission was justified and the treatment beneficial. The findings show that studies based on participants only can lead to biased findings. from WPA Thematic Conference. Cerebrospinal Fluid Indices in Acute Drug Intoxication Do they Predict the Patients’ Outcome?
Introduction: In some intoxicated patients, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is examined due to the prolonged loss of consciousness, focal neurologic findings, and fever of unknown origin. We aimed to evaluate the probable relationship between the different toxicity causes and the CSF indices in poisoned patients and determine if they could predict the patients’ outcome. Methods: All patients who h...

Abstract Background: This study sought to determine patient characteristics, process of care, and outcome as predictors of reintubation after open-heart surgery. Methods: We performed a retrospective case control study that included all patients undergoing cardiac surgery who required reintubation and an equal number of control patients not requiring reintubation. Putative risk factors were an...

Background: To determine whether it is possible to predict intravenous thrombolytic therapy (IVT) outcome after 3 months in acute ischemic stroke patients who are candidate to receive recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA), before rt-PA administration based on their risk factors and some available laboratory results. Methods: We enrolled 118 ischemic stroke patients who were treated ...

CONTEXT Patient recall of treatment information is a key variable towards chronic disease (CD) management. It is unclear what communication and patient participation characteristics predict recall. OBJECTIVES To assess what aspects of doctor-patient communication predict patient recall of medication information. To describe lifestyle treatment recall, in CD primary care patients. DESIGN Obs...
